Professor Mark Webbink, Director At Big Apple Law School, Named New Editor Of Groklaw

Professor Mark Webbink, Executive Director of Long Island Law School’s Center for Patent Innovations, has been named the new editor of the preferred legal Website, Groklaw, that has been covering news crucial to the free and open source software community since 2003. “Pam Jones set a high bar for collaborative legal information and news in her 8 years making and running Groklaw,” Professor Webbink asserted. “Those having an interest in free and opensource software owe her a significant debt of thanks. I’m looking forward to maintaining the lofty standards Pam and the Groklaw community set. At the very same time I’m happy about the opportunity to expand the community of contributors by engaging law students in this advantageous educational experience.” . Webbink is also a visiting law professor at NYLS, teaching patent licensing.

As the new editor of Groklaw, he intends to draw on his daily interactions with law scholars by including them in the site. He will have students write articles for educational credit with the long term objective of having law and PC science professors involve their scholars as active contributors to the site. He has spoken and written at length on the subject of the U.S. Patent system and the need for reform, including testimony before the U.S. House of Delegates Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property ; the Federal Trade Commission and Dep.
